We left the Niagara area this morning in the rain. It really wasn't too bad when we left about 8 a.m., but it had started raining enough to wake me at 4:30. The sensationalists (TV meteorologists) were forecasting the potential for flash flooding in the area. Since we were a ways out in the boonies, I decide we should get going before the country roads got washed out. It was rainy, but no wind and we didn't get washed away. I find it easier to drive when it's overcast, easier on the eyes. Of course I did grow up in Michigan where it's likely to be overcast on any given day, and definitely from October to April.

Ohh!!! Did I tell you I got new eyes last year? I can see like a kid!

We had a very enjoyable stay at the campground we just left; It was relaxing, quiet and with nice people to chat with. We met 2 couples from the Fort Wayne area who had come out on vacation together. They were drawn in looking at our bikes, wanted to know cost and speed and basically everything about them. We found out that one of the couples had lost their Marine son in 2008 in Afghanistan......

We had a short talk with them each day about the sites we each had seen, where we were going next and what we thought of somewhere we had gone or seen. They left on Thursday and there were now several spots between us and the next trailer. The next morning the campground started to fill solid. There was a subtle difference in the new campers, hurried, slightly grumpy and louder. I guess it is the difference in time available; the people during the week are either well into their time off or full time like us, the weekenders are still in a hurry trying to cram some time outside during their hectic lives. Still, all in all, they are mostly pleasant, laughing with others and watching their children play.

So as I was saying, the drive today was not too bad. Moderate rain for 3 of 4 hours of the trip and medium traffic. Places where you could take your eyes off the traffic and gaze out over the green rolling hills, cornfields and passing lakes. The terrain reminds me of Southwestern Michigan which isn't surprising really as we are following the Lake Ontario shoreline basically and the Lake has the same type of climate as Lake Michigan at home. The only real difference is the limestone deposits above ground. In Michigan most of them are still covered until you get up north. We are now at the South Eastern side of Lake Ontario at Fort Drum. Town around it are Watertown, NY; Evans Mills and Sackets Harbor. The rain stopped for the last hour of the drive and held off until we were all set up and kicked back in our chairs.

Tomorrow we plan to shop at the commissary and exchange (Grocery store and Mall) and plan out the next 4 days of exploring....

Oh by the way, I still haven't figured out how to load a batch of images at a time on this platform so I'm going to put them on FB.
